It started with Two.
My boyfriend and I have been together since June of 2017. While two years may not seem like a long time, we felt that it was most certainly long enough to decide that we were both in a place where we were ready to commit to one another and be a team. It just so happens that we wanted our team to grow.
Trying to Conceive
Honestly, we weren’t too concerned with preventing pregnancy from the get-go. I was on birth control for a very short amount of time while I was with my boyfriend and we instead practiced timing.
This involved me downloading a fertility app (I went with FF Mobile) and began tracking my periods, when we had sex, and even certain symptoms, such as bloating or breast tenderness.
I loved that I was forced to pay attention to the hormonal changes in my body, so that when I was ready, I would be confident that we were trying for a baby in earnest.
My boyfriend and I decided to try for a baby in March of 2019. I had recently gotten my yearly performance review (and raise) at work and we were comfortable financially.
I purchased Ovulation Predictor Kit Strips from Amazon to pair with my FF Mobile App. When the app said that I was nearing ovulation, I would begin testing my urine with these strips. When I saw a line, it was game on for the next five days!
Three Months was all it took for us to conceive
Let me preface this by saying I am aware that we are blessed to have gained our baby boy after three months of trying. I was honestly terrified that conception was going to take much longer, which is why I wanted to try to conceive before getting a ring on my finger!
But, there was one morning when I thought that I was 2 days late, only to realize I was really four days late! I assumed my body must have been messing with me, as my cycles were usually longer (although regular).
On the hour commute, I decided to talk to God.
I decided to purchase pregnancy tests anyways, because I just could not wait on a period that may not come! While I was at Walmart, my boss texted me saying they were busy. “Hey, I’m right across the street! I’ll be right over!” I said.
After the rush had slowed down, I told her excitedly why I was already across the street. She asked, “Why don’t you just take one, now? Go ahead!”
I thought, ‘Why not? I’m most likely late, anyways.’ And then I peed on the stick .
I was Pregnant!
I was shaking. I could not believe we were undeniably pregnant; that second line came in immediately. I took this picture to send to my boyfriend and my mother simultaneously.
I was crying. I came out of the bathroom because I needed to hug someone! I heard someone head into the back room and I called out my managers’ name. It was her; I shared the news and we were both crying tears of joy!
It wasn’t necessarily the way I expected to find out I was pregnant, but I was ecstatic about the news I was given!
